Ommana Announces the Opening of Two New Schools in Pakistan
Based on the remarkable success of our first school in Yousuf Khan Goot in the outskirts of Karachi, Ommana proudly announces the opening of two new schools in Pakistan.
KhanBela School:
The Ommana school in Khanbela, located in South Punjab, opened its doors for registration in December 2012. Currently, 35 students are enrolled and the enrollment is steadily continuing to increase. The local community is still in the process of learning about the school and building trust with school‘s teachers. There are about 900 homes in the neighborhood surrounding the school and each household consists of an average eight family members. This underprivileged, poor community primarily focuses on using their income to getting one full meal a day, and so sending their children to school is of lower priority. Ommana is providing the opportunity to these underprivileged children who otherwise would not be able to learn to read or write or get a basic education that every child deserves. The neighborhood is very appreciative of Ommana’s efforts and thanks to the generous donors and prays for their well-being.
Gujranwala school:
The Ommana school in the outskirts of Gujranwala, located in Punjab, opened its doors for registration in February 2013. As soon as the word got out, the children themselves came to enroll in the school. Currently, 55 students are enrolled between the ages of 6-14 years old. Every day, an average of 5-10 new students show up to be enrolled but due to limited space, the school has stopped accepting new students. The community surrounding the school is underprivileged and extremely poor. Many of the children come from single working parent homes where the fathers are crippled, handicap, addicts, and/or abandoned their families. In addition, child labor is also very common in this community. Upon hearing about the new school by Ommana, many of the children left their low-paying work and enrolled themselves in the school. The neighborhood is very appreciative of Ommana’s efforts and thanks to the generous donors and prays for their well-being.
